Grosse Point Lighthouse
Built by the United States Government in 1873 as the lead lighthouse marking the approach to Chicago after several shipwrecks demonstrated its need. In 1999, Grosse Point Lighthouse was designated a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service the first lighthouse on the Great Lakes to carry that status. Illinois Holocaust Mueum and Education Center
Opening in late 2008, this new center will be a 65,000 square-foot building designed by renowned architect Stanley Tigerman and will be dedicated to applying the lessons of the Holocaust to issues of hate, bigotry and intolerance of our world today. The museum will feature an authentic early 20th century German rail car, an inspiring Hall of Remembrance for contemplation and reflection, permanent exhibitions chronicling life before, during and after the Holocaust, including stories of survival and renewal and a 260 seat lecture hall, auditorium, and theater.
